Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt performed a surprise set at a charity show in Oakland, California over the weekend.

Organised by music store 1-2-3-4 Go! Records, the highly intimate gig was held to raise money for the victims of the Oakland ‘Ghost Ship’ warehouse fire, which killed 36 people.

The Green Day duo joined punk band SWMRS on stage for five songs – the Californian group features Billie Joe’s 21-year-old son Joey on drums, while his other son Jakob Danger, 18, was also performing.

Taking place in the middle of the SWMRS set, Billie Joe and Mike blasted out the Insomniac tracks ‘Armatage Shanks’ and ‘Stuck With Me’, ‘Scattered’ from 1997’s ‘Nimrod’, ‘Waiting’ from 2000’s ‘Warning’ and the more recent ‘21st Century Breakdown’ track ‘Murder City’.

Enthusing about Sunday night’s performance, Billie Joe wrote on Instagram: “amazing emotional night last night.. Me and Mr Dirnt got a chance to sit in with smrs. a benefit for the ghost ship folks. i'm playing with my babies.. Jakob and Joey..”
