Green Day have unveiled details of a new career-spanning best of album called ‘Greatest Hits: God’s Favorite Band’.
The pop-punk trio released their last greatest hits compilation ‘International Superhits’ 16 years ago and since then they’ve released six further studio albums to mine hits from.
Released globally on Friday 17th November, ‘Greatest Hits: God’s Favorite Band’ boasts 20 of Green Day’s biggest hits “from the dawn of creation” in 1986 to present day. Eight of the songs previously appeared on ‘International Superhits’.
As well as seminal songs from Green Day’s distinguished back catalogue there are two new tracks – ‘Back in the USA’ and a rework of ‘Revolution Radio’ closer ‘Ordinary World’ featuring the dulcet tones of country music singer Miranda Lambert.
Billie Joe Armstrong previously joined forces with Lambert at The Grammy Awards back in 2014 for a live duet in tribute to the late Phil Everly of The Everly Brothers fame.
The accompanying aesthetically pleasing album cover depicts Billie Joe (clutching a table tennis bat), Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool as priests against a stained-glass window backdrop that contains references to their previous studio albums.
Introducing the album, Green Day wrote on their social channels: “From God’s Favourite Band to the world’s best fans, Christmas comes early. #Blessed.”
The title for the album comes from when Green Day took to the stage on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform ‘Still Breathing’ back in March. An unexpected guest introduced the band — God himself - who called the trio his "favourite band."
You can pre-order the album in a variety of formats and packages via Green Day’s official website |newtab) right now.
