Frances Bean loses Kurt Cobain’s Nirvana MTV Unplugged guitar in divorce settlement
She had been contesting ownership
Frances Bean Cobain has lost possession of her dad Kurt Cobain’s iconic MTV Unplugged guitar in her divorce settlement.
25-year-old Frances Bean officially divorced musician Isaiah Silva in November 2017 having filed divorce papers in March 2016, and, six months on, they have finally reached a property settlement agreement.
The acoustic 1959 Martin D-18E guitar that Kurt Cobain played for Nirvana’s fabled MTV Unplugged performance has proved a major backbone of contention in the acrimonious split.
Silva has claimed that he was gifted the guitar as a wedding present in 2014, however Frances Bean has always claimed this is untrue and asked the divorce court in January 2017 for them to force Silva to hand it back.
Now, according to legal papers obtained by TMZ, Frances Bean has allegedly agreed to let Silva keep the guitar as part of the divorce settlement.
Despite losing the instrument, Frances Bean won’t be liable to pay Silva any spousal support – he had wanted $25,000 a month. He will also have to pay his own legal fees and Frances Bean gets to keep the house they bought together.
Last month, Frances Bean posted her first original music composition to Instagram before later deleting it. She has previously covered songs by Jimmy Eat World and Leonard Cohen.
