Foo Fighters drafted in two guests during their headline performance at Rockville Festival in Florida last night (29th April).
During the covers section of their sprawling two-and-a-half hour set, Dave Grohl and co. launched into ‘You’re the One That I Want’ from 1978 musical Grease.
With the band playing the instrumental, Dave told the audience “It gets better” before John Travolta joined them on stage and waved to the 25,000 strong crowd.
Unlike Rick Astley, Travolta didn’t sing and instead left Dave to take on the vocals. After singing “I got chills they’re multiplying and I’m losing control / Cause the power you’re supplying, it’s electrifying”, Dave called an end to the song saying “All right stop it, we did the hook!”
Before ‘You’re the One That I Want’, the Foos performed a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Gimme Some Truth’ with Billy Idol joining Dave on vocals. The ‘White Wedding’ singer had appeared on the main stage earlier in the day.
Foo Fighters’ set list in Florida also featured covers of Van Halen’s ‘Jump’, Ramones’ ‘Blitzkrieg Pop’ and Queen & Davie Bowie’s ‘Under Pressure’.
Speaking about Foo Fighters’ upcoming tour dates to Rolling Stone, guitarist Chris Shiflett said they’re trying to mix the setlist up as much as possible.
“Things change on a dime,” he said. “When we get into that final third, Dave will start cutting, adding and rearranging songs, or he'll do stuff in a different order.
“You have to stay in the moment the whole time. You don't want to be up there thinking about the room service. It keeps you on your toes.”
Shiflett added: "It's a long jaunt to play two-and-a-half or three hours every night. We've been on the road for the last eight months or so and I feel like we're in good form. We're hitting our stride, but we're not burnt out yet. People should expect to get their money's worth."
