Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl defends Cornish teen metal band embroiled in noise row
Black Leaves of Envy receive his backing
Foo Fighters lynchpin Dave Grohl has jumped to the defence of a teenage heavy metal band embroiled in a noise row with their council in Cornwall.
After neighbours complained to the authorities, The Black Leaves of Envy were told that they could only practise at a maximum volume of 30 to 40 decibels.
Devastated at the news, they reached out to Dave Grohl pledging for his support and to their utter amazement he wrote two open letters back in response – one urging Cornwall Council to change their mind and another offering The Black Leaves of Envy advice on soundproofing.
Posting the council letter on , Grohl cited his early days of practising in a garage and urged them to “reconsider the restrictions.”
"Together with friends, my adolescent years were made better by playing music with others,” Grohl wrote.
“Music is not only a healthy pastime, it is a wonderful, creative outlet for kids, and fosters a sense of community necessary to the emotional and social development of any child."
Grohl’s letter to the band, shared on Foo Fighters’ official website, includes detailed information on soundproofing together with diagrams and photos.
Flabbergasted by Grohl’s thoughtfulness, Black Leaves of Envy – comprising of members aged 17 – said: “We would like to give a huge thanks to Mr Grohl and Foo Fighters. This means a lot to us, and the everyone involved with music in our local area.”
Dave Grohl we salute you once again!
