Fans of Good Charlotte had to wait six long years for their last record ‘Youth Authority’, however it seems their seventh album could well arrive a lot sooner.

Speaking to Kerrang! Radio’s Jack Wood backstage at Download Festival, Joel Madden confirmed they have some “exciting” things lined up ahead of their November/December UK tour, which was announced yesterday.

Joel explained: “Leading up to the tour, we’re going to be having a bunch of other things, kinda special things like announcing who’s going to be on the tour, we’re probably going to release some more videos and music and things like that so we’re excited.”

Quizzed by Jack whether that meant work had begun on a new album, a reticent Benji Madden responded: “Not yet…”

Overruling his twin, Joel interjected: “He doesn’t want to say there’s a new album in the works but there is. We just don’t know when it’s going to be done cos it took us six years to make the last one so…

Benji jokes: “It actually only took us a month to make the last one, we took six years off.”

Asked whether they’re scouting any big name collaborators after working with Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil and Sleeping with Sirens’ Kellin Quinn on ‘Youth Authority’, Joel responded: “Always. Who knows man, the way all that happens is always just random, there’s never a masterplan.

“It’s an open door at our studios so when bands come through we usually end up making music together and some of it goes on the album.”

You can watch the whole Good Charlotte interview below where Joel and Benji talk about their love for Sum 41 and their wild antics together on the road and their top tips for not hating each other in a band plus they play our Download Festival quiz 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’…
