WATCH: Enter Shikari's Rou Reynolds covers 'Heroes' on anniversary of David Bowie’s death
This is powerful

Enter Shikari frontman Rou Reynolds performed a poignant cover of David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ in Sheffield last night (10th January) to mark the third anniversary of the singer’s death.
23 songs into Enter Shikari’s blistering first show of 2019 at the O2 Academy, Sheffield, Rou returned on stage for the encore alone with his guitar.
He then proceeded to play a heartfelt cover of Bowie’s seminal 1977 song, telling the capacity crowd: “The band (Enter Shikari), like many other bands, wouldn’t be here without David Bowie and his inspiration.”
Enter Shikari then completed their sprawling, triumphant set with rip-roaring renditions of ‘Juggernauts’ and ‘Live Outside’.
You can watch footage of the powerful performance right here:
David Bowie died from liver cancer at his New York City apartment on 10th January 2016, just two days after his 69th birthday.
Rou Reynolds previously performed a live studio version of ‘Heroes’ last November in Belfast for The Road Sessions in partnership with Help Musicians Northern Ireland. Last night’s show, however, was the first time he’s performed it at a gig.
Having kicked off last month, Enter Shikari continue their sprawling 28-date tour at Nottingham Rock City tonight (11th January) and wrap up at Newcastle O2 Acacemy on Monday 4th February.

Rou Reynolds said of the extensive trek when it was announced: "Our most recent UK tours have been of the “eight or nine shows in arenas / big sheds” variety, so we consciously wanted to switch it up a bit going into 2019. Enter Shikari have always kept dipping back into more intimate venues over the years, no matter how big our headline shows have become. That’s where we cut our teeth. The heat-sweat-and-visceral-human-connection of smaller gigs is every bit the equal of the impressive-scale-and-expensive-production of arena shows. We’ve never seen the latter as an evolution away from the former. They exist on opposite sides of the same coin for us.
“It's also no secret that austerity and the looming potential disaster of Brexit have seen people having to be a lot more careful with how they spend their money. With things being what they are right now, it doesn’t seem fair for only those who can afford the travel to a major city for a night out (plus the inevitable other costs that go along with it) to be able to see a show. Playing 28 dates across the UK is our way of taking what we do back to as many people as possible, in the most intimate and direct way.”
