Download Festival will feature ‘multiple secret sets’ this summer, according to the latest Download Family newsletter.
The second issue of the Download Family newsletter hit subscribers’ inboxes on Tuesday (5th March), and once again it offered a variety of perks and exclusives.
At the bottom of the mailer is a cartoon of a man reading a newspaper emblazoned with the headline ‘TOP SECRET: Multiple secret sets confirmed for Download XXII.’
With the names blanked out, the following line reads ‘Don’t miss (obscured artist names) this June.’
Last year’s Download Festival featured a secret set from Parkway Drive on a rammed-to-the-rafters Dogtooth Stage, while Black Stone Cherry, Bullet For My Valentine and Enter Shikari have previously had surprise performances on the hallowed turf of Donington Park.
The most famous secret set was undoubtedly Metallica at the inaugural Download Festival in 2003 when the metal titans tore through 10 songs on the second stage.
Headlined by Green Day, Sleep Token and Korn, Download Festival 2025 features sets from Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter, Within Temptation, Shinedown, The Darkness, Myles Kennedy, Opeth, Apocalyptica, Airbourne, Jerry Cantrell, Sophie Lloyd and many more.

Download Festival's name has a two meanings. The word 'Download' was a murky word at the time thanks to Napster and illegal downloading. Download was also seen as a Monsters of Rock for the 21st century and the internet would provide connectivity with its audience. Tickets had a download code on them so fans could get tracks by some of the bands performing.
