Sum 41's Deryck Whibley denies he's joining Linkin Park… or Oasis
He has dispelled the rumours

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has issued a statement denying he’s fronting a reunited Linkin Park.
The rumour mill was sent into overdrive over the weekend when both Deryck Whibley and Linkin Park teased an announcement on Wednesday morning (28th August).
Fans speculated that Linkin Park were reforming with Whibley stepping into the late-great Chester Bennington’s shoes.
However, on Tuesday evening (27th August), 44-year-old Canadian rocker Whibley rubbished the rumours.
“I feel the need to dispel some current rumours,” Whibley wrote. “It’s been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis… or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter.
“I have my own ‘tour and book’ announcement that I will now move to the end of the week, ahead of our U.S. tour.
“I do look forward to seeing whatever both these amazing bands do in the future.”
Whibley previously performed vocals on ‘The Catalyst’ at Chester Bennington’s tribute concert in October 2017.
A year later in August 2018, Sum 41 covered Linkin Park’s ‘Faint’ at Reading Festival and they were joined on stage by Mike Shinoda. Whibley’s knockout vocals on the cover were widely praised by fans.
Sum 41 play six UK arena dates this autumn as part of their farewell tour, which concludes in their native Canada in January 2025.
