Deftones’ Chino Moreno performs gig inside volcano
He played Morrissey, Deftones and David Bowie songs at unique show
From Metallica performing in Antarctica to Queens of the Stone Age playing in a salt mine 1mile deep, rock stars are often keen to ply their art in highly unusual places.
Step forward Chino Moreno. As part of Iceland’s Secret Solstice Festival over the weekend, the Deftones singer performed an ultra-intimate show for just 20 people INSIDE A VOLCANO!
The singer played an acoustic set inside a glacier within the Thrihnukagigur volcano in what was billed as ‘the world’s first public gig inside a volcano.’
According to the BBC, the audience paid 250,000 Icelandic krona (around £1390) to attend and they had to trek two-and-a-half miles to get there before taking a six-minute lift down a 400 foot shaft.
After Icelandic musician Snorri Helgason opened proceedings, Chino performed Deftones track 'Change (In The House Of Flies)’ alongside numbers by David Bowie and Morrissey.
Fortunately there was no chance of Chino being killed by red hot magma – the last eruption was around the time the Great Pyramid of Giza was built, approximately 4,000 years ago.
