A man suffered serious head injuries after falling over 20ft from a balcony at A Day To Remember’s gig at Portsmouth Guildhall last night (12th November).

The American band were 30 minutes into the opening night of their All Signs Point To Britain Tour at The Guildhall when the man from the upper level fell. They immediately aborted their set.

According to local news, witnesses saw the man, believed to be in his mid-twenties, “fly through the air” and hit the floor.

Barriers were put around the injured man while St John’s Ambulance personnel treated him until paramedics arrived.

The man was then rushed to Southampton General Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

Police evacuated the 2000 capacity venue so they could launch their investigation while several gig goers gave statements to the police.

A Day To Remember later sent this tweet about the injured crowd member.

A Portsmouth Guildhall spokesperson said:

"Last night at a concert by the band 'A Day to Remember' a young man appeared to dive off of the Circle of the Portsmouth Guildhall, landing in the stalls narrowly avoiding the crowd below.

"The staff of the Guildhall along with security and first aid immediately attended the incident and emergency services were called. The band along with the Guildhall management stopped the concert allowing police and emergency services to attend.

"As with any incident of a serious nature an investigation will take place with all concerned. We are advised that the gentleman is in a serious condition in hospital and our thoughts and best wishes are with him and his family.

"Please note all concerts scheduled this week will go ahead as planned.

"The Guildhall is managed by Portsmouth Cultural Trust, who are cooperating with police.

"We are thankful to 'A Day to Remember' for stopping the concert, as well as the public for their cooperation.

"We have nothing further to add at this time."

A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 10.13pm with a report that a 25-year-old male had fallen from a balcony. We sent a response car and an ambulance.

"His condition was serious and he was taken to Southampton General Hospital.''
