Their first record in 30 years

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is one of the guest performers on the first record in 30 years by his former hardcore punk band Scream.

44 years after their formation in Washington DC in 1979, Scream will unleash their sixth album ‘DC Special’ on Friday 10th November 2023 via Dischord Records.

Their last album was 1993’s ‘Fumble’, however they did release the seven-track live EP ‘Complete Control Recording Sessions’ in February 2011, which was recorded at Dave Grohl's Studio 606.

Ahead of the new album’s release, Scream - Skeeter Enoch Thompson (bass), Kent Stax (drums), and brothers Franz (guitar, vocals) and Pete Stahl (lead vocals) – have premiered the lead single ‘DC Special Sha La La,’ which you can listen to here:

Scream’s ‘DC Special’ was recorded with Minor Threat and Fugazi producer Don Zientara and Minor Threat’s Ian Mackaye at Zientara’s revered Inner Ear Studio in Virginia.

‘DC Special’ includes contributions from Jerry Busher, Amy Pickering, Mark Cisneros, Onam Emmett, Joe Lally, Bob Berberich, John Goetchius, the aforementioned Ian MacKaye, and former Scream band member Dave Grohl.

Dave Grohl cut his teeth in the music industry when he joined Scream as a fresh-faced 17-year-old in 1986, replacing original drummer Kent Stax.

Grohl toured extensively with Scream over a four-year period and he appeared on the live album ‘Your Choice Live Series Vol. 10’ plus two studio albums – ‘No More Censorship’ and ‘Fumble’.

On ‘Fumble’, Grohl performed lead vocals on the track ‘Gods Look Down’ – something he didn’t have the chance to do again until he formed Foo Fighters.

Following the split of Scream in 1990, Dave Grohl went on to replace drummer Chad Channing in Nirvana, who became one of the biggest rock bands on the planet following the release of 'Nevermind' one year later.
