Mr Grohl previously worked with Queens of The Stone Age in the studio on their 2002 tour-de-force ‘Songs For The Deaf’.

Immediately after the seminal album’s release, the Foo Fighters and Nirvana man returned to his other projects and was replaced by Joey Castillo who remained with the band for the next decade until his departure this month.

It’s currently unclear whether Grohl will tour with the band, although the recent news of a Foos hiatus makes the prospect highly promising.

Grohl has also collaborated with Josh Homme as part of the rock ‘supergroup’ Them Crooked Vultures alongside Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones.

The follow-up to 2007’s ‘Era Vulgaris’ is set for release at some point in 2013.

Queens of the Stone Age are confirmed for next year’s Download Festival and will perform alongside Slipknot, Iron Maiden, Rammstein, 30 Seconds To Mars, Motorhead, Alice In Chains, HIM, The Gaslight Anthem and A Day To Remember.

Tickets are available from Kerrangradio.co.uk/tickets right now.
