Cradle of Filth frontman Dani Filth has responded to comments Ed Sheeran made in an interview stating he’s open to recording a death metal album.

Last week, acoustic pop troubadour Ed Sheeran revealed he was a huge Cradle of Filth and Slipknot fan as a child and he couldn’t rule out shifting musical direction to death metal in the future.

“I was really into death metal as a kid. I listened to Cradle of Filth and Slipknot and all that stuff,” Sheeran told Metro. “I’m not saying I could ever step into that world. I learnt all those riffs on guitar as a kid.

“That’s something I’ve never thought about doing – but something I would not be opposed to creating.”

Ed Sheeran’s fellow Suffolk native Dani Filth has now taken to Instagram and joked they could join forces for a song called ‘Dracula’s Castle on the Hill.’

“I’ll believe it when I see it,” Dani wrote. “Fellow Suffolk lad could come good in the end. ‘Dracula’s Castle On The Hill’ anyone?”

Dani then added a number of hashtags, including #suffolklife #suffolklads #ipswich #sadhabit #framlingham #galleryofthegrotesque #unlikelycollaborators.

In August 2019, Slipknot knocked Ed Sheeran’s ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ from the Number 1 spot with their sixth studio album ‘We Are Not Your Kind.’

Cradle of Filth play the Ronnie James Dio stage at Bloodstock Open Air at Catton Park in Derbyshire on Saturday 14th August.

They appear on a weekend bill that boasts Devin Townsend, Kreator, Judas Priest, Skindred, Paradise Lost, Diamond Head, Therapy?, Venom Prison, Jinjer, Vio-Lence, Saxon, The Wildhearts and many more.

Limited tickets are on sale from Kerrang! Radio Tickets now.
