Corey Taylor has given an update on the progress of the new Slipknot album – and unfortunately, it’s not great news.

Back in March, percussionist Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan said Slipknot said the writing process had begun for the sixth album and they already have some “amazing” songs.

Now, Corey, who has previously said it may be some time before the record comes out, says it will be at least 2019 before they reconvene in the studio.

“I’m gonna bum you out, we ain’t doing s--- right now. We’re not really doing anything right now,” Corey told US radio station 97.1 The Eagle.

“I know we’re kind of slowly starting to write some music. Other than that, we’re taking some time off. Clown’s going to direct some movies, Sid’s going to do some stuff. We’re all kind of doing our own thing.”

He continued: “Next year is everybody doing their own thing. Then, probably after that, we’ll slowly but surely start to get together to do some Slipknot stuff.”

Slipknot wrapped up the extensive touring cycle for 2014’s ‘5: The Grey Chapter’ last autumn.

Boasting the singles ‘Fabuless’ and ‘Song #3’, Stone Sour’s new album is released on Friday 30th June via the band’s long-time imprint, Roadrunner Records.
