Slipknot and Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor has posted a poignant musical tribute to the late Chris Cornell.

Taking to Instagram yesterday (21st March), Corey posted a snippet of a cover of the Audioslave track ‘Getaway Car’, which appeared on the supergroup’s 2002 self-titled debut album.

Captioning the post ‘A little tribute to a sorely missed artist. #cornell’, in the clip Corey performs an emotionally driving version of the song on piano. Watch it here:

It’s not the first time Corey has honoured Chris’s memory. Stone Sour performed a cover of Soungarden’s ‘Outshined’ at last year's Rock On The Range Kick-Off Party at Express Live! (formerly LC Pavilion) in Columbus, Ohio.

Corey said of the cover: "It was important, you know. Chris's impact can never probably ever be really encapsulated and spoken about enough. So us playing 'Outshined', and playing it with heart, and not just because we wanted to, but because we needed to, it came off really well, and the audience loved it."

He has also said his “one regret” was that he never told Chris Cornell how much he inspired him.

"Chris was truly an inspiration for me as a songwriter, as a singer, as a performer, because he wrote what he wanted," Corey said last year.

"He didn't care about anything. He didn't let genres get in his way, he didn't let styles get in his way, and he was like that from the very beginning, whether it was stuff like 'Badmotorfinger' or the solo stuff that he put on the 'Singles' soundtrack, like 'Seasons'.

“It was amazing! He could go back and forth and all over the place musically, and that inspired me so much. And my one regret is that I never got to tell him… Pauses and gets choked up We love you, Chris."

Earlier this week, System of a Down’s Serj Tankian joined Prophets of Rage on stage in New Zealand to perform a cover of Audioslave’s ‘Like a Stone’.

Prophets of Rage’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk were, of course, Chris Cornell’s band mates in Audioslave.
