CONFIRMED: Foo Fighters To Release Eighth Album This Autumn!!
They're filming an eight-part documentary to accompany it
Foo Fighters have announced they’re recording an eight-part HBO series to document the eight-city recording odyssey of their eighth studio album.
To accompany the as-yet-untitled record this autumn, Dave Grohl is personally directing a series of films that “tap into the musical heritage and cultural fabric of eight cities” - Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, DC and New York.
The band based themselves at legendary studios in each of the cities and recorded one song at every stop in the presence of local legends.
Dave only laid down the lyrics on the last day of each session so he could incorporate the experiences, interviews and people he met into the songs.
“Dave’s heartfelt passion for this project is contagious and his talent as a musician and filmmaker is undeniable,” said President of HBO Programming Michael Lombardo.
“We are excited to go on this journey with him and the Foo Fighters for this insider’s look at how regional music inspired them to create their own new music.”
The HBO series will premiere on the eve of Foo Fighters’ 20th anniversary this coming October.
It follows Dave’s 2013 directorial debut, the universally acclaimed and Grammy Award-winning Sound City, about the legendary studio of the same name and the stories of the iconic albums that were created there.
Foo Fighters’ new album is the follow-up to 2011’s chart-topping ‘Wasting Light’, which spawned the huge singles ‘Rope’, ‘These Days’ and ‘Arlandria’.
