In a refreshing turn of events, this week's UK Official Albums Chart looks set to contain plenty of rock and metal in the top 10!

As mid-week data released by the Official Charts Company shows, Bring Me The Horizon are currently on course for their first ever number 1 album with 'That's The Spirit'. If they hold the spot it'll be their highest charting release, surpassing 2013's 'Sempiternal' which reached number 3.

It's no one-horse race though, as Stereophonics are just over 1,000 sales behind them with their new full-length 'Keep The Village Alive'.

For us it’s crazy to even be in the running for number one!” Bring Me's Jordan Smith told Kerrang!, “We’re just happy that people are liking the album. Obviously we’d be stoked to get the album to number one but at the moment we’re trying not to get too carried away!

“In this day and age it’s so easy for people to download stuff illegally so it’s cool that our fans still appreciate owning a copy and actually supporting us. It feels like everyone is really getting behind us and that’s a really cool feeling." he said.

“I think for a band like us to top the charts would only be a good thing for UK rock music in general!” enthuses Jordan, “Hopefully we can have a lot more rock/metal bands in the Top 10 in the next few years.”

Elsewhere last week's triumphant number 1, Iron Maiden's 'The Book Of Souls', is sitting at number 6, whilst there's a new entry at number 7 for Slayer with their eleventh studio album 'Repentless'.

However the final chart looks on Friday, it's certainly an exciting time for guitar music!
