Two members of Bloodhound Gang are reportedly under criminal investigation in Russia for “inciting hatred and enmity” against the country.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, during a Ukrainian show at Kiev’s Green Theatre on 30th July bassist Jared Hennegan (aka Evil Jared Hasselhoff) put the Russian flag in his pants and threw it into the crowd.

The incident gained widespread notoriety when Bloodhound Gang fans uploaded the video onto YouTube.

The following day, Jared and James Moyer Franks (aka Jimmy Pop) also allegedly shouted anti-Russian statements on stage at the resort city of Odessa.

Now, a statement published on the Russian Investigative Committee site confirms that a probe has been launched into the purported actions of Hennegan and Franks.

It reads: “Moyer, Hennegan and other unknown persons entered a criminal plot aimed at disgracing Russian citizens and formed a criminal group to that end.”

Adding that other people could be implicated in the case, the committee said the alleged actions of the pair were intended to humiliate “the human dignity of citizens of Russia".

If charged and found guilty, Franks and Hennegan could face up to five years behind bars.

Last month the band were banned from Russia and the Interior Ministry considered whether to charge them with desecrating the Russian flag – a lesser offence with a potential one-year jail term.

Hennegan has also been banned from Ukraine for five years after he apparently urinated on the country’s flag during a gig.

Formed in 1991, Bloodhound Gang reached their career peak in 1999 with the top five smash ‘The Bad Touch’ and the four million selling album ‘Hooray for Boobies’.
