Ahead of their Main Stage appearance at Download Festival, Kerrang! Radio’s Sophie K caught up with Black Veil Brides' Christian "CC" Coma and Andy Biersack backstage.

Making their fourth appearance on the hallowed turf of Donington this year, Sophie asked if Black Veil Brides can see themselves headlining Download Festival one day.

“Let’s hope so,” Andy said. “I’ll just keep climbing the ladder. I think honestly that if you show up enough times and keep annoying everybody then… maybe tonight we could headline?! ‘Oh sure you’ve been here 950 times, screw it let them on.’

He continued: “We have such a strong connection with this country, with this audience and with this festival. So if we get to headline it one day – or even if we get to come close – that would be a huge honour for us.”

Reflecting upon their infamous appearance in 2012 when Andy was hit by a cup of urine, Andy said: “I challenged the audience to hit me with a bottle of pee in 2012 and I also said you guys don’t have a lot of sports that involve throwing so I didn’t think that I’d get hit. So I have to give it to the English audience, I did get hit with pee.

“I also mooned the audience and that’s the day I found out I don’t have a butt. I thought that I had a butt my whole life, I was wondering why my legs were always asleep on the toilet until that day. Cos I saw a lot of photos. I also had butt implants that day, I’ve had big butt implants since summer 2012.”

He added: “We have had so much fun at this festival and the coolest thing is we keep getting invited back. This was such a launching pad for us with the English festivals to be able to have Andy Copping get behind us and put us on a stage and say ’we think this band is going to do well try it out.’

“We’ve gone from playing a smaller stage to now being on the Main Stage and building this audience here. And I tease about being throwing pee or whatever but that’s… for us now we’ve done it a few times since then that the pee has gone away.”
