Black Sabbath Score First No.1 Album in 43 Years
'13' shoots straight to the chart summit
Black Sabbath have scored their first number one album in almost 43 years with ‘13’.
The metal pioneers’ first record with Ozzy on vocals since 1978’s ‘Never Say Die’ brushed aside its nearest rival, ‘BE’ by Beady Eye, to claim the top spot.
Sabbath’s only other album number one came in 1970 when their heavy metal masterpiece ‘Paranoid’ stormed to the chart summit.
The Birmingham band have also set a new chart record for the biggest gap between number one records ever - 42 years and eight months.
Blown away by the success of ‘13’, Ozzy Osbourne enthused: "I'm in shock! The success of this album has blown me off my feet. We've never had a record climb the charts so fast!"
The record was previously held by Bob Dylan who managed a gap of 38 years between 1970’s ‘New Morning’ and 2009’s ‘Together Through Life’ hitting number one.
Before Sabbath’s triumph, Rod Stewart held the British record of 37 years between 1976’s ‘A Night On The Town’ and this year’s ‘Time’.
Commenting, Ozzy told The Official Charts: "It's great, but Rod's the same as us, we've got something other people haven't got. It's all manufactured bulls**t these days.
“But the likes of Rod, and Elton John and us have got something different. We know our craft."
