The masters of metal bring their final tour to Donington

It had to be really, didn't it? The band who virtually invented metal, at the spiritual home of rock, on their final tour.

Black Sabbath were today unveiled as the Saturday night headliners, nearly five decades on from their beginnings in Birmingham. The slot is part of their last ever tour entitled “The End”, which will see their biggest and most mesmerising production to date.

Said Ozzy: “Download is my absolute favourite summer festival. It’s always like coming home. See you all there!”

Tony Iommi spoke to us about the tough choice of a set list: “You can't go on and play for two and a half, three hours! We’ve gotta do the songs that people want to hear, and a lot of them are the hits."

Iommi then added tantalisingly: *“We’re talking now actually, I’ve been in touch with Ozzy backwards and forwards: “What do we all fancy doing?” and it would be nice to do some songs that we haven’t played for such a long time, as well as the regular hits. That’d be interesting I think, to do that, and I think the fans would like it too."*

Damn straight we would! 'Shock Wave', anyone?
