Watch Billie Joe Armstrong sing Green Day's 'Basket Case' with covers band at London pub
An amazing moment
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong surprised punters at a London pub on Saturday night (13th May) by taking to the stage with a local alt-rock band.
London-based band called Borderline Toxic were performing at Slim Jim’s Liquor Store on Upper Street in Angel, Islington when Billie Joe Armstrong stepped up on stage and belted out Green Day’s seminal 1994 anthem ‘Basket Case’ alongside vocalist Kerry Glass.
Green Day shared the footage to their own YouTube account, and wrote: “When you walk into a pub and the cover band starts playing your song.”
Flabbergasted Borderline Toxic vocalist Kerry Glass wrote on Instagram: “The moment your band gets joined on stage by your childhood idol to sing their own song with you… in your favourite dive bar!! 🥹
“Billie Joe Armstrong… @greenday !! THANK YOU, YOU LEGEND! 🔥 This was the first band to get me into rock when I was 11 years old and I’m honestly just so made up 😅🥹 brb crying/screaming/spewing 😂”
Sharing Green Day’s video, Slim Jim’s Liquor Store wrote: “We are still in shock! Last night, Billie Joe from @greenday hopped on stage with @borderlinetoxic, and they played Basket Case together. How awesome is that?!”
Green Day last performed in the UK in the summer of 2022 when The Hella Mega Tour visited London Stadium, Huddersfield John Smith’s Stadium and Glasgow Bellahouston Park.
Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool play a trio of North American festivals this summer before they headline the sold out When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas in October.
