Avenged Sevenfold have thanked their UK fans after scoring their first ever number one album with ‘Hail to the King’.

The Californian metallers brushed aside pop competition from Naughty Boy, Ellie Goulding and Britain’s Got Talent singers Richard & Adam to claim the chart crown yesterday.

Paying tribute to the A7X’s army of fans, guitarist Zacky Vengeance told OfficialCharts.com: “It has been a hell of a ride thus far and having our first Number 1 album in the UK is a monumental achievement for our fans and us.

“I remember playing the 100 Club to prove to our fans we were willing to start from the ground up again to earn your respect.

“Thank you for putting heavy metal back on the throne. We look forward to growing old with you.” Avenged Sevenfold’s previous highest charting album on the UK was 2010’s ‘Nightmare’ which peaked at number five.

The band are also dead certs for their second US number one album tomorrow with ‘Hail to the King’ selling an estimated 175,000 copies in its first week.
