Alter Bridge announce London Royal Albert Hall shows with 52-piece symphony orchestra
They promise to be very special
Alter Bridge are playing two very special gigs at London’s Royal Albert Hall this autumn.
Taking place on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd October 2017, the Floridian rockers will be joined by the Parallex Orchestra – a 52-piece London-based symphony orchestra conducted by Simon Dobson.
Speaking to Kerrang! Radio backstage at Download Festival yesterday, Mark Tremonti said the shows will consist of classic songs from their distinguished five-album back catalogue alongside some tracks never performed live before.
“We’re a little nervous about it because it’s such a big deal for us,” Mark told us. “We’re going to tape the show, put it on DVD.
“The toughest thing about it is we can’t just do our normal setlist, we’ve got to take the songs that would work best with the orchestra. So we’re taking a lot of songs that we’ve either never played or have played once or twice in our career.”
Mark continued: “We want to do something different, play the more moody, epic songs that would fit that space better with that orchestra. We’re nervous and excited.”
Asked who they took inspiration from, Mark said: “When Metallica went ahead and played with the (San Francisco Symphony) orchestra it opened everyone’s eyes that a heavy band can do something like that.”
Currently just two dates, Mark said he’s unsure how viable it would be to take the concept on tour: “I don’t know how you could take it on the road because you’d have to get a different orchestra for each country, you can’t travel with 90 people. A 52-piece orchestra with all of our techs, it would be tough.”
Tickets to the shows go on sale from Kerrang Radio Tickets at 10am on Friday 16th June.
