AC/DC legend Brian Johnson is set to be honoured with a bronze plaque in his home region.

Founded in 2014, the NewcastleGateshead Initiative's Local Heroes Walk of Fame sees the general public cast their vote to nominate the most inspiring local people from the past 60 years.

Each year, the people with the most votes are immortalised with a bronze plaque that are laid across the stretches of pavement on the Quayside in Newcastle and Gateshead.

Born in Dunston, Gateshead in 1947, Brian will have his plaque installed later this month in recognition of his contribution to music.

Sarah Stewart, from the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, said: "Those recognised have all made a huge contribution to the region and are a driving force behind the NewcastleGateshead we have today."

Sting and Mark Knopfler are among the 29 people that have been honoured on the walk since its inception. The walk also features actors, Olympians, authors, sports stars, politicians, fallen army heroes and community activists.

Since being forced to quit AC/DC last year on medical grounds, Brian has turned his hand to presenting.

He hosted a weekly show on Planet Rock last summer called The Producers, which explored the people behind-the-scenes of some of the greatest rock music ever recorded, while his six-part TV show Brian Johnson's Life On The Road is currently airing on Sky Arts.
