The police watchdog have announced they are investigating Northamptonshire Police's contact with a woman whose body was found in a car boot.

Harshita Brella, 24, is believed to have been killed in Corby on 10 November.

Her body was found in the boot of a car in Ilford, East London, four days later.

The Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) have revealed Ms Brella made a report of domestic violence to Northamptonshire Police in August.

Her husband, who is the main suspect in her death, was arrested in September following this report.

23-year-old Pankaj Lamba was later bailed with conditions and a domestic violence protection notice.

An international manhunt is underway for him, after it is believed he left the UK for Sri Lanka.

IOPC regional director Derrick Campbell said the watchdog would examine Northamptonshire Police's response to Ms Brella's domestic violence, and her subsequent contact with the force.

"Our investigation will consider the actions and decisions taken by Northamptonshire Police in relation to the report made by Ms Brella and their subsequent investigation.

"Our thoughts are with Ms Brella's family and all those affected by her death. We will be contacting Ms Brella's family to explain our role and express our sincere condolences."
