A teenager has been jailed for more than 11 years for the manslaughter of a 17 year old in Birmingham.

18 year old Zechariah Nelson stabbed Akeem Bailey in the Ladywood area of the city on the 30th October last year.

He also stabbed another teenager near Springfield Street, but they managed to escape without serious injury.

18 year old Nelson was found guilty of manslaughter and was today given his sentence at Birmingham Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Jim Colclough, from West Midlands Police's homicide unit, said:

"This is another tragic loss of a young life at the hands of a knife.

"By just carrying a weapon you are putting yourself in a position where it can be used in the spur of the moment and destroy lives.

"A teenager has lost his life and another has lost his freedom."
