There's been a major emergency services response to an incident involving chemicals in Staffordshire.

A man was found covered in an unknown substance at a property in Abbotts Road in Leek at around 7am yesterday morning.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Experts then discovered chemicals inside a home, so military experts were called in to help, cordons put in place and some homes evacuated.

Staffordshire Police have got extra officers in the area to reassure the public.

In a statement released last night, Superintendent Victoria Downing from Staffordshire Police said:

“With support from our partners, we have the right expertise to ensure the safety of the public and make the property safe.

“This is an isolated incident and we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.”
