A man arrested on suspicion of murder following a double stabbing in Moss Side is now being held under the mental health act.

Police were called to Great Southern Street at around 05:00GMT on Sunday (17 November), where they found two men injured.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 23-year-old man was taken into custody a short time later, and is now being detained under the mental health act.

It is also believed the suspect knew one of the victims.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with their investigation.

Officers are also carrying out extra patrols in the area to offer reassurances to residents, and are appealing to speak to any witnesses.

Chief Superintendent David Meeney, district commander for the City of Manchester division, said: “We understand the shockwaves that this devastating news will have caused in the local community and further afield across Greater Manchester.

"We have placed a number of local neighbourhood officers in the area to conduct visible patrols to reassure the community.

“If you have any concerns, please speak to them, they are there to lend a listening ear.

“I’d like to thank the local community who have all really pulled together and cooperated with our enquiries."
