Seven-year-old girl dies following serious collision in Metheringham
The child suffered serious injuries in the collision on the B1202 on Friday
A seven-year-old girl has died following a fatal collision on the B1202 near Metheringham, Lincolnshire Police have confirmed.
The incident took place on Metheringham Heath Lane, which runs between the A15 and the B1188.
Officers said they were called to the crash - between a blue Kia Rio and a white Citroen Relay just before 5:50pm on Friday (January 3rd).
However, in a new update on their investigations, Lincolnshire Police said the girl - who had suffered serious injuries in the collision - had sadly passed away.
The girl was treated immediately at the scene for her injuries, and was taken to hospital shortly afterwards before passing away just before 4:30 am on Saturday morning (January 4th).
Investigators confirmed that the girl's family were being supported by specially-trained officers as their enquiries continue.
The road has been reopened to the public, but the force added that their lines of enquiry remain active while they determine the cause of the crash.
Lincolnshire Police have said they are continuing to appeal for information regarding the case and have urged anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible.
Those who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of the area at the time of the crash are being particularly urged to get in touch.
