Police in Hampshire are appealing for information and witnesses following a serious collision on the M3.

Officers were first called to the motorway at 6:23am on Saturday morning (August 31st) after the force received reports of a man jumping in and out of traffic on the A33 which runs parallel to the M3.

A second call from a woman who had been driving on the A33 reported that a man had jumped in front of her car and tried to open the door.

However, during the 5-minute period between 6:30am and 6:35am, a collision took place between a car and a pedestrian, with descriptions matching that of the man mentioned previously.

Emergency services attended the scene and took the man to hospital where he was described by doctors as having "life-threatening" injuries.

The man currently remains in hospital as he is being treated for his injuries, while the A33 - which had been closed whilst initial enquiries were carried out - has been reopened.

A 37-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle while under the influence of drugs. He has since been released under investigation.

Speaking on the case, PC Haithum Zubaibi from Hampshire Police said: "We are appealing for anyone who saw the man on the A33 or the M3 to come forward and speak to us.

"Were you driving in the area at the time? Do you have a dashcam fitted to your vehicle? If you have any information please come forward and speak to us."

Those who may have been in the area at the time of the crash is being asked to get in touch as soon as possible to try and establish the context leading up to the incident.

Anyone who has relevant information can get in touch with the force by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 44240369471.
