Cold weather has caused the clock on Glossop's town hall to freeze - weeks after it was reset.

The recent cold snap that has hit the UK has impacted the clock, after the Town Hall was renovated as part of plans by High Peak Borough Council.

As a result, the Council has confirmed they will be keeping the clock stopped while the poor weather conditions continue.

The Council they will reset the clock again so as to avoid damage to the newly repaired mechanisms.

Speaking about the incident, Council Leader Cllr Anthony McKeown said: "We're close to completing the transformational regeneration works at the Town Hall now and expect the main heating in the building to be up and running in the next month or so which will help to resolve this temporary issue.

"Having the clock chime to mark the beginning of the two-minute silence on Remembrance Sunday made a real difference to the poignant service.

"Thanks to everyone for their continued patience - we know how important the clock is to the town and it will be back working again soon!"
