Murder investigation underway after man struck by van in Ilkeston dies

The driver of the van which struck a group of people has been arrested on suspicion of murder

A man has died following a serious collision in Ilkeston on the border between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Officers were called to Market Place at 2:10 am after reports a number of people had been struck by a van.

One man, who hasn't been named yet, died at the scene after sustaining serious injuries, and two other people are being treated for their injuries in hospital.

Another man, believed to be the driver of the van, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody.

Derbyshire Police do not believe the incident is terrorism related and are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the crash.

Market Place was closed for a time as officers carried out enquiries.

Van seizure in Stapleford linked to incident

Derbyshire Police have also confirmed that a van seized and cordoned off in Stapleford, Nottinghamshire is linked to this investigation.

Reports of the vehicle being seen emerged on social media earlier today.

In a statement, a spokesperson said:

"Officers investigating the incident in Ilkeston have recovered a van in Stapleford which they believe may have been involved."
