Jaimie Branch, trumpeter and composer, dies aged 39

The American trumpeter and composer Jaimie Branch has passed away at the age of 39.
International Anthem Records, with whom Jaimie Branch was closely associated, released a statement stating: "At 9:21 pm on Monday, August 22, composer and trumpeter jaimie branch passed away in her home in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Her family, friends and community are heartbroken."
The statement went on to say "Jaimie was a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and teacher; she touched countless numbers of people with her music and spirit, both of which are fearless, truthful and beautiful, and will live on in hearts and ears forever. Jamie's family asks not just for your thoughts and prayers but also for your action. Show your love and support for your family and friends and anyone who may be in need — just like Jaimie did for all of us".

jaimie "Breezy" branch was born in New York on the 17th of June 1983, picking up the trumpet aged nine. She later moved to Chicago, before attending the New England Conservatory of Music.
After graduating, she moved back to Chicago, where she immersed herself in the music scene as both a musician and sound engineer.
She collaborated and appeared on a series of releases from 2007 onwards, before making her debut as a bandleader in 2017 with the acclaimed Fly Or Die, which was released on International Anthem. The album featured Tomeka Reid, Chad Taylor, Ben LaMar Gay, Jason Ajemian, Matt Schneider and Josh Berman, and was met with critical acclaim.
She released the follow-up to her 2017 debut with Fly or Die II: Bird Dogs of Paradise in 2019, as well FLY or DIE LIVE in 2021.
jaimie branch was also known for her work with Jason Nazary, under the name Anteloper. The duo released three projects under this outfit, Kudu (2018), Tour Beats Vol.1 (2020), and most recently Pink Dolphins in June 2022.
jaimie branch was also a two-time Jazz FM Awards nominee, receiving a nomination for 'International Jazz Act of the Year' in 2019 and in 'Live Experience of the Year' in 2018 with Makaya McCraven and Theon Cross.
