Find out a little more about the 'UK Act of the Year' nominees for the Jazz FM Awards 2021 with PPL and PRS for Music.

Archipelago

Archipelago - UK Jazz Act of the Year nominee

Archipelago are a genre-defying trio of adventurous musicians, formed out of the North East of England’s creative musical underground. The group are fronted by multi-instrumentalist and composer Faye MacCalman. Achipelago's sound is a dreamlike collision of otherworldly atmospheres, heartfelt song-writing and energetic off-kilter rhythms. Moving between instruments and effects to create the illusion of a much larger ensemble, before peeling back to their raw, improvisational trio form, Archipelago’s uncompromising refusal to fit in one genre makes for a fully-charged musical experience.

Emma Jean-Thackray

Emma-Jean Thackray - UK Jazz Act of the Year nominee

Bandleader, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, Emma-Jean Thackray was born and raised in Yorkshire but is today a resident of Catford, south-east London.

Since 2020, she’s launched her own label Movementt, signed to Warner Chappell, alongside releasing multiple projects, including a set of beat-laden remixes, demonstrating her versatility.

Despite having only just released her critically-acclaimed debut album Yellow in July 2021, Emma-Jean Thackray has been a key figure of the London jazz scene over the past few years, leading to her being nominated for 'Breakthrough Act of the Year' for the Jazz FM Awards 2019.

Fergus McCreadie

Fergus McCreadie - UK Jazz Act of the Year nominee

Scottish-based musician Fergus McCreadie is a passionate communicator and a consummate performer. He is a composer of elegant, nuanced and captivating music as well as a pianist and improviser of exceptional ability and originality.

Since he burst onto the national scene with his self-released debut album Turas in 2018, Fergus has racked up awards and is now in the running for both 'Album of the Year' for his record Cairn as well as 'UK Jazz Act of the Year'
