As part of Jazz FM’s ‘Established 1990’ series, we delved into the archive to revisit interviews with iconic artists. Across a three-part series, we returned to three special interviews conducted by David Freeman from the past thirty years.
In the first episode, David Freeman looks back at his 1990’s interview with late great trumpeter Donald Byrd, including conversations about his early life, his influences, how he worked and composed and who he met along the way.
In the second instalment, David looks back at his 1990’s interview with late great singer, song-writer and arranger Nina Simone, including conversations about her early life, her guiding forces, women in the music industry and the power of music.
In the final episode, looks back at his archive interview with icon that is saxophonist, songwriter and singer Van Morrison, when the two got together backstage at Love Supreme Festival 2015.
