New York’s Motéma Music, who found celebrated vocalist Gregory Porter and released his first two albums, has signed a young pianist hailed as a prodigy. 11 year old Joey Alexander from Bali, Indonesia, began playing aged 6. He has been mentored by Herbie Hancock and recently performed with him at a New York fundraiser. He has played at Jazz at Lincoln Center at the invitation of Wynton Marsalis and plans to relocate to New York City.

Introduced to jazz by his father’s album collection Joey says, “I like jazz because there's freedom and expression. The music of jazz is here in New York.”

Joey and his family were brought to the US after leaving a huge impression on several established jazz musicians. He has already performed for celebrated jazz lover and saxophonist, former President Bill Clinton and is working on a new studio album.
