The first original recorded compositions from trumpeter Wynton Marsalis in six years are to be released on double CD and DVD.

‘The Abyssinian Mass’ by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis is the result of Marsalis’ 2008 commission to compose music in celebration of the bicentennial of Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church. This is music for a 70-piece Gospel Choir, Damien Sneed’s Chorale Le Chateau, that toured the South of the United States with Marsalis and JALC Orchestra.

The DVD will contain a documentary about the project giving deeper insights, footage of live performances, writings and more. Release date is slated as March 18th.

*In November 2015 British organist and band leader James Taylor released a project called 'A Rochester Mass' blending religious music, jazz and funk in collaboration with the forty-strong choir of Rochester Cathedral.
