German pianist Michael Wollny has come out on top in a poll of the UK’s top jazz writers. His acclaimed trio album ’Weltentraum’ is the Jazzwise magazine Crtics' Poll Album Of The Year 2014. Wollny was a sensation at this year’s Cheltenham Jazz Festival and is the first German jazz musician to make it into the pop top 50 with this jazz album. It includes a live version of Pink's God Is a DJ, sung by Theo Bleckmann, with the trio made up by American bass player Tim Lefebvre with regular drummer Eric Schaefer.
Second place went to Anglo-Scandinavian trio Phronesis with their live album ‘Life To Everything’ and third place was Christine Tobin’s collection of Leonard Cohen's work, ‘A Thousand Kisses Deep’.
