New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center will host a small festival across three of its venues in honour of veteran saxophonist Wayne Shorter.
There are plans to reinterpret selected Shorter material by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra featuring Wynton Marsalis. Saxophonist Joe Lovano and trumpeter Dave Douglas, who have formed a group inspired by Wayne Shorter called Sound Prints, will play two nights and younger will feature in Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola playing some of Shorter’s early compositions.
The mini-fest takes place May 14th -17th.
Wayne Shorter, now 81, is recognised as one of jazz music’s greatest improvisors. He came to prominence as one of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, his years with Miles Davis and as founder member of ground breaking fusion group Weather Report.
