Thousands turn out to see Van Morrison perform at home in Belfast

Van Morrison performed two concerts in Belfast to celebrate his 70th birthday on Monday August 31. Some 3000 people attended the shows on Cyprus Avenue in east Belfast, the street he famously brought to the World’s attention on his second album ’Astral Weeks’ in 1968.

The recently knighted Sir Van, who headlined Jazz FM’s Love Supreme Festival this year, was joined by fans who travelled from far and wide to see him at home in Belfast playing his hits including ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ and ‘Moondance.’

Cyprus Avenue is close to Morrison’s birth place in the city, and one of his favourite places. He has described it as, “a very mystical place. It was a whole avenue lined with trees and I found it a place where I could think," he said.
