The Sounds of Denmark Festival is set to return to the UK this Autumn. This third edition will “celebrate the vibrancy and eclectic nature of the contemporary Danish jazz scene”, including appearances from urban quintet Girls in Airports, instrumental hip hop jazzers Athletic Progression and a big band led by pianist Kathrine Windfeld featuring acclaimed UK trumpeter Gerard Presencer. There’s also a UK debut for indie-jazz singer-songwriter Live Foyn Friis, and Janne Mark featuring acclaimed Finnish trumpeter Verneri Pohjola, showcasing material from her latest Scandinavian-folk-inspired record, ‘Pilgrim’, released on the influential German record label ACT.

The annual event is held once again at Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho, London with two new venues hosting shows this year – Turner Sims in Southampton and Watermill Jazz in Dorking. Full listings are at https://www.pizzaexpresslive.com/sounds-of-denmark.
