Jazz fans in the North East are counting down the days to this weekend’s Gateshead International Jazz Festival. Presented by the Sage in Gateshead the programme has something for the casual listener to the hard-core jazz devotee and plenty for those that like funk, soul and blues grooves.

The festival runs from this Friday to Sunday, opening with six time Grammy-winning saxophonist David Sanborn, plus the piano / guitar duo of British blues man Jon Cleary and guitarist John Scofield. Portland’s own highly acclaimed jazz and soul singer songwriter Jarrod Lawson hosts a late night session and the weekend bill includes Hammon B3 organ general James Taylor and his Quartet and Love Supreme Festival confirmed US saxophonist Joshua Redman.
