Legendary British funk band Cymande have reformed and will play the Barbican in London on May 5th 2015.

Formed in 1970 their members were drawn from London’s Caribbean community and they made deep funk grooves with heavy instrumental playing. Cymande toured in America with Al Green, and even appeared on Soultrain. They later found themselves being sampled by pioneering American hip hop bands. Their bass lines have been mimicked and plagiarised and their classic songs ‘The Message’, ‘Bra’ and ‘Brothers On The Slide’ remain collectable and popular with funk fans.

40 years after they disbanded, with a new album and celebrated comeback date in September 2014, all the founding members of Cymande are back to play together again for this special Barbican concert.
