Trumpeter and flügelhorn player Eddie Henderson is set to release a new album called ‘Collective Portrait’ on February 10th 2015. The album will feature pianist George Cables, alto saxophonist Gary Bartz, bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Carl Allen. It will be released on the Smoke Sessions label, who specialise live recordings, and was recorded at Sears Sounds in New York City.

The ten track album is very reminiscent of Henderson’s fusion sound and even includes a remakes of ‘Sunburst’, ‘Beyond Forever’, ‘Morning Song’ plus much covered trumpeter’s favourite ’Gingerbread Boy’.

Eddie Henderson was very influenced by Miles Davis’ fusion output. He was actually a trained and qualified doctor but chose music. He is noted for his work with the Herbie Hancock’s pioneering fusion band of the early 1970s and somewhat more commercial jazz-funk / disco records of the late 1970s. His music figured prominently in clubs with much loved titles like ‘Prance On’, ‘Say You Will’ and disco remix of ‘Cyclops’. In the 1990s Eddie returned to a more ‘straight ahead’ sound in parallel with his work as as a psychiatrist.
