Shorter band to release new trio album
Wayne Shorter's pianist Danilo Pérez, bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade will release 'Children Of The Light' in Sept.
Three regular key members of the Wayne Shorter Quartet are to release a trio album. Panamanian pianist Danilo Pérez, bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade have backed Shorter for over ten years. The new album project under the name ‘Children of the Light’ (a play on Shorter’s Children Of The Night) will be released on the Mack Avenue label Sept 18.
The album features 11 pieces with all three members contributing compositions. There’s a new take on Shorter’s classic ’Dolores’, John Patitucci has written three pieces, including ‘Ballad for a Noble Man’ featuring his wife, cellist Sachi Patitucci, and there’s one from Brian Blade. Pérez will unusually feature on electric piano on his own ‘Lumen.’
"When I gave Wayne a copy of the recording I told him: 'this is for you, doctor. This is our gift. This is our show of love, care and gratitude for all the lessons'," says Pérez.
