American trumpeter and Flügelhorn player Roy Hargrove is to play London’s Union Chapel on April 16th 2016. His band will also include alto saxophonist Justin Robinson, pianist Sullivan Fortner, bassist Ameen Saleem and drummer Montez Coleman.

Hargrove remains one of the key inspirations for a generation of today’s players with his broad approach since the late 1980s, from straight ahead jazz to hip hop and r&b. With the funk-oriented RH Factor, he released the 2003 album ‘Hard Groove,’ featuring guest appearances by R&B superstars Erykah Badu, Common and D'Angelo.

Among his other groups and projects are the straight-ahead, hard-bop Roy Hargrove Quintet and Crisol, an Afro-Cuban ensemble that won a Grammy in 1998 for Best Latin Jazz Performance with its album ‘Habana.’
