Ronnie Scott’s have launched their own brand of whisky, in celebration of their 60th birthday. Naturally it will be called ‘Ronnie’s Scotch’ and on sale at the famous jazz club from this week. We’re told it tastes “rich, sweet and nutty - boasting flavours of sultanas, pecans and wisps of peat smoke”. The scotch will be limited to a run of just over 1000 bottles, priced at £75 apiece.

Distilled in Scotland, the whisky was blended by Iain Fortreath of Tomintoul Distillery at Speyside, in conjunction with the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars; Iain worked closely with the band to help create a 12-year-old blend that is “as complex and well-rounded as the music”.

Tasting notes:

Nose - Rich and complex with overlapping aromas of toffee, salted caramel, peat smoke and cooked apples with highlights of lemon zest and icing sugar.

Palate - Initially sweet and creamy with notes of milk chocolate, sultanas and praline that lead into cigar smoke, cedarwood and charred oak.

Finish - Warming and long with layers of dried fruits, cinnamon Danish and rolling tobacco that leave a toasty glow long after swallowing.
