Ronnie Scott's goes Gaga on the Late Late Show
Pop queen Lady Gaga sat in at Ronnie Scott’s last night following the cancellation of her Royal Albert Hall performance with Tony Bennett.
Pop queen Lady Gaga visited iconic Soho jazz club Ronnie Scott’s last night following the news that her Royal Albert Hall performance with Tony Bennett was cancelled due to his ill health.
Arriving in a Rolls Royce amidst a media scrum the singer had called ahead explaining that she was keen to honour Bennett and sing some jazz numbers that night. On being told the club’s Late Late show was open till the small hours and that she was welcome to sit in, the ‘Cheek to Cheek’ singer delighted a packed house with a superb impromptu appearance.
Dressed in a cheeky fishnet and leather outfit, and drinking neat whisky from the stage, Lady Gaga, accompanied by her own band performed an electrifying thirty minute set including a rendition of ‘Bang Bang’ lounging on the club’s piano.
One lucky onlooker later tweeted “I'm so happy I got the chance to see gaga sing jazz at Ronnie Scott's jazz club, it was beyond. What a grand singer & entertainer. Legend” while a member of staff commented that “she was funny, friendly and her band was great.”
Lady Gaga is the latest in a line of celebrities that have graced the club’s Late Late show; Prince, Stevie Wonder, Wynton Marsalis and Mos Def have all recently surprised guests with their imprompru performances. Ronnie Scott’s Late Late Show takes place following the club’s main performance. Open Monday to Saturday until 3am with a more informal vibe, it offers a late night hang with live music from some of the capital’s finest young musicians.
